Small business Cyber Wardens gain world-class certification
MAY 7, 2025: Small businesses can now access a globally-recognised cyber security certification and insurance benefits through a powerful new partnership.
COSBOA’s Cyber Wardens program has announced an exclusive collaboration with CyberCert, offering small businesses across Australia a path to enhanced protection.
Through the partnership, operators who graduate from the Australian government-funded Cyber Wardens course in May will now be eligible to access the Bronze CyberCert certification.
The Bronze level provides small businesses with a valuable cyber security certification, as well as continuous vulnerability monitoring and a pathway to affordable cyber insurance.
The offer also unlocks a discounted and fast-tracked upgrade to Silver certification and is available to all small businesses with a valid ABN who apply within four weeks of completing the Cyber Wardens training.
COSBOA CEO Luke Achterstraat said he was thrilled to announce the partnership with Australia’s leading cyber security certification program.
“Our mission is to help small businesses make cyber security part of their everyday business, and be recognised and rewarded for their efforts to protect Australians against cyber crime,” he said.
“This partnership means practical training through Cyber Wardens now leads directly to respected industry certification through CyberCert. It’s a win for businesses, customers, and the security of our broader economy.”
Mr Achterstraat said small businesses lose an average of $49,600 per attack—a cost many simply cannot afford.
Ryan Ettridge, Chief of Growth & Partnerships at CyberCert, said the partnership represented a “game-changing” opportunity for small businesses.
“Through one simple, accessible pathway, you can now graduate your people, certify your business, and qualify for cyber insurance at a Silver level—fully sponsored, with no cost to you,” he said.
“This is about giving you the protection you need, so you can stay focused on what you do best: running and growing your business. Even better, it strengthens Australia’s supply chains and the economic backbone we all depend on. It’s a humbling and powerful moment for the entire ecosystem.”
Key benefits include:
- Free Bronze CyberCert certification
- Discounted and fast-tracked upgrade to Silver within four weeks
- Pre- qualification for cyber insurance
- Internationally recognised certification for small and medium-sized businesses under the SMB1001 cyber security standard
- Industry recognition from customers, suppliers, and partners
