Frequently asked questions
I see other organisations charge for their course whereas Cyber Wardens is free. How is the course being funded?
Cyber Wardens is a free Australian government-funded program created to ensure Australian small businesses operate in a cyber-safe environment. Our mission is to inspire every Australian small business to build a culture of cyber safety within their teams by training their own Cyber Wardens. We do this by offering quick, accessible and free training to small business owners and employees to help them defend against cyber attacks.
Who is providing the course?
Cyber Wardens is an initiative of the Council of Small Business Organisations of Australia, supported by the Australian Government and an industry alliance led by Telstra, CommBank and the Australian Cyber Security Centre and delivered by 89 Degrees East.
How has the course been developed?
The Cyber Wardens course has been developed by a team of cyber security experts and educational specialists who combined industry expertise with practical learning approaches. The curriculum was created through research into current threats, industry consultation, and pilot program feedback. The course features interactive elements and scenario-based training, with regular updates to address emerging technologies and threats. Materials are designed to make complex cyber security concepts accessible to learners of all technical backgrounds.
Why is Cyber Wardens important for small business owners and employees?
43% of cyber crime targets small businesses and a cyber attack can cost you an average of $49,600. With 95% of cyber attacks involving human error, cyber security is everyone's responsibility. If you're not cyber-safe, everyone in your team, supply chain and wider network is vulnerable. By prioritising cyber security, you're protecting not only your business but also those you work with. The small business sector is crucial to our economy, and collective action is needed to ensure its protection.
I don't have a lot of time to study and I'm not tech-savvy. Will I still be able to complete the course?
The Cyber Wardens online course is made for busy small businesses and takes only 45 minutes to complete. No buzz, no jargon - just practical and quick cyber safety solutions to help you and your team protect your business and keep cyber criminals out.
